How is your PVD 18K gold stainless steel jewelry made?
Our jewelry pieces are not solid gold. If solid gold was used, the price would reflect a higher cost. We wanted to create jewelry that can move with you in your life, and tolerate more rugged wear. Designed for those who like to live, work, and play in their jewelry.
We source our hardware, necklace chain, and charms from vendors specialized in using 18K or 24K Gold PVD (Physical Vapor Depostition) coating technology to give the gold its sheen and durability. The process involved, vacuum seals the coating of 18K/24K gold, 18K/24K rose gold, and other finishes directly onto the stainless steel or other metal. This produces a harder, more durable finish which offers a more corrosion-resistant coating than involved in electroplating. Because theses pieces are so durable, they tend to be tarnish resistant for months and even years with normal wear. The vendor used for our PVD jewelry hardware pieces uses PVD coatings that have been shown to exceed 1200 hours of neutral salt spray. In fact, we intended to create our jewelry pieces so that they are mostly water-resistant, sweat-resistant, and sustain extended wear. As a general reference, most PVD coated jewerly has a 6-12 month timeframe for wear-related color fading to become noticeable. It is normal for wear to occur at the points where the metal of the harward is in contact with the metal of the chain, ring, or charm.
